Easter Eggs- Craft Chick Style

I sincerely hope I'm NEVER too old to enjoy dyeing Easter eggs.  This year we decided to go more with 'artsy' eggs than 'eatsy' eggs so we didn't bother with the food-safe dye.  Instead, I pulled out the dyes I bought during my 'pettiskirt sewing phase' two years ago and the kids and I went for the most colorful creations we could possibly make.

Now, this is NOT a project that could be done with very young children and I didn't let my youngest put the eggs in the dye- acid dyes contain some pretty harsh chemicals even though the 'acid' part is just vinegar.  The Cushings Perfection Dyes we used came out brilliant!
Logan dives down in his chair so I can't get him on film- I put this one of his elbow up anyway. HA!

Okay, so a little overkill on the egg pictures but they came out so pretty!
Should you ever choose to replicate it, place dye in containers which can withstand very hot water and you will be throwing away after the fact- we just used the heavy duty plastic, egg-shaped cups that come with the regular dye kits.  I carefully added dye powder to the cups, put about a Tablespoon of vinegar (or maybe a little more, I didn't measure) in the cup and stirred to incorporate the two into a thin paste.  Added hot water and stirred with a disposable spoon.  I know it sounds kind of scary but it really wasn't a big deal, we were just being cautious but, again, DO NOT try this will small kids around.  These were 'big kid' eggs.

Oh- and the darkest egg (purple-black one) was left in the dye all through Church.  And that's saying something because the Sacrament meeting speaker went over time by about 45 minutes! Not that we would know that for sure (relying on neighbor report)- our attention span was far surpassed by 25 minutes over time and we slipped out the back door.  Oh yes.  We did! Gotta love that 'B' List!

Soooooo pretty. I love bright bold colors and these eggs turned out superb!

Our Sacrament meeting went way over as well last week and it wasn't even about Easter. It was a mission farewell. We couldn't sneak out the back though cuz me and Mark teach 13 year old SS.

Happy day to you:)

Love the eggs. Austin and I don't dye easter eggs anymore. Our house has become a little bit boring with the teenage years.

I would have left early also.

Wow- I have never seen eggs that vibrant & pretty. Did I over look if you can actually eat them or does the coloring & chemicals soak into the egg?

Love the rich color of all the eggs. Very pretty. You and the kids must have had a fine time hiding and seeking all of those eggs.
